Mattie Pearl McCowan Scott

Family and friends say farewell to a beloved Mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, family member, and faithful Christian servant and friend ,Mrs. Mattie Pearl Scott.
On April 16, 1918, Mattie Pearl McCowan was born to the Rev. P.J. McCowan and Caldonia (Simmons) McCowan, in Oakwood, Texas.  While she was still a youth, the family moved to Palestine, Texas where Mrs. Scott was educated in the Palestine Independent School District.  Mrs. Scott's greatest education was in God's Word which touched her heart at an early age.  She was united with the Grace Temple Church of God in Christ in Palestine, Texas, until she relocated to Houston, Texas, following the death of her lifetime mate, Mr. Alton Scott.  While in Houston, she became a member of the Full Gospel Church of Love in Christ with Bishop Arvie Jones as pastor.
"It is not good that man should be alone; I will make an help meet for him."  On June 19, 1935, the late Mr. Alton Scott joined is help meet in Holy matrimony.  To this blessed union ten children were born; four of whom preceded them in death.  The six remaining children are left to carry on the legacy of Christian love and service she lived before them.  They are, residing in Houston, Texas, Adrian Scott and former wife Frankie Lee (Reeves) Scott and 6 children:  Adrian Scott, Jr. with 4 children; Avis Marie Scott with 3 children; Alton Carlisle Scott with 2 children; Everett Scott with one child; Gregory Scott with 4 children; and Tarnise Marsei Kyles with 3 children; Norman Jean (Scott) and Arive Jones; Geraldine (Scott) and Lewis E. Taylor with 4 daughters:  Sheryl Dean (Taylor) and Aubrey Dean Livingston with one daughter; Gwendolyn Diane (Taylor_ and Michael J. Coscarelli with one daughter; Carolyn Denise Taylor, and Audrey DeAnne Taylor, Clevel and Viola Scott with one son, Antoine Scott; residing in Norfolk, Virginia, Juanita Pearl (Scott) and Billy C. Taylor with one son, Eric C. Taylor; and also residing in Houston, Texas, Solomon Ray and Betty R. Scott with 5 children:  Solomon Ray, Jr., Elizabeth Ruth, Sara, Samuel and Elishiba Rachael Scott.
Mrs. Scott was one of seven sisters, three whom survive:  Mrs. Hannah Soctta and Mrs. Laura Smith of Palestine, Texas; Mrs. Lydia DeCluette of Dallas, Texas.  Mrs. Scott was blessed with a God-given compassion for others and the ability to touch lives without selfish motives.  She now leaves 17 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, friends and former employers, to continue the Biblical pattern she followed in hopes of a peaceful admittance into Heaven wit her...'to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord'  II Corinthians 5:6-8.
